Glos Girls Can Supporters… Hello!
I am so sorry there has been such a gap in communication - we are upgrading our system so you will soon receive much more jazzy looking newsletters. However, I felt there was lots of things to share and update so I hope this simple email will do!
Please take 10 minutes to have a scroll through 5 things that I think you will find interesting:
The new This Girl Can video
It’s out and lots of people are talking about it – what do you think?
Check out the video and the stories of the women featured on the This Girl Can Website.
Diversity, breastfeeding, and tampons – it’s real stuff and it’s breaking the taboos around female activity. Get sharing and get talking about it (you too men!)
This Girl Can Community Fund
If you or someone you know has a really good idea or needs extra funding to help with a women’s project there is now a ThisGirlCan Community Fund. This aims to help women who may be less active to overcome barriers, find something they enjoy and become more active.
These are National Lottery Grants ranging from £100 - £10,000+ and can be accessed by community groups, schools, not-for-profit organisations, clubs or charities.
It’s really simple: fill in an expression of interest on the This Girl Can Website by 25th February 2020 and you will find out if you are successful within 8 weeks.
If you would like to talk it through or ask questions, please get in touch with kirstydunleavy@activegloucestershire.org
This Girl Can and International Women’s Day
This year International Women’s Day is on Sunday 8th March so, as a heads up This Girl Can are going to be encouraging people to get involved and organise special events or activities.
Specifically, there is going to be a partnership with ParkRun with national media coverage and promotions. If you are involved or attend any ParkRuns, perhaps mention it to Race Directors and consider what your ParkRun can do to encourage more women to volunteer, support or take part on Saturday 7th March.
This Girl Can supporters poster
I have attached it here – quite simply, print it or save it as an image & use it to promote your club, group or organisation so that women who may be taking their first steps into activity know you are a supporting, welcoming & friendly environment!

Women in Sport - free podcasts
Women in Sport have started to produce free podcasts that are open to individuals and organisations who work with women and girls or are passionate to know more.
Episodes feature discussions on key issues and really interesting topics effecting women and girls in the UK. So far have included; menopause, equal pay, breaking down barriers for Muslim girls and ‘Generation Z’ participation.
Maybe listen in on the commute to work, a lunch break or walk? Go to Women in Sport Website to find out more or download the podcast from iTunes, Spotify or Audioboom.
Finally, keep doing what you are doing, keep getting in touch if you would like some support or advice, and keep shouting about opportunities for females across Gloucestershire #GlosGirlsCan.
